Vidhyadhar Chakravorty was the architecture of this royal city. He split the city into nine blocks and drew wide straight streets, which was later surrounded by a protective wall. One can also find traces of planning of site. Chowkri Sarhad was a palace which had a series of temples, gardens and other royal buildings. Purani Basti was built for the attendees of the royal court. Chowkri Modikhana-Vishveshwarji was for businessmen and other royal officers. Whereas Ghat Darwaza was built for artists and merchants. Every block served its purpose differently.
